How AEGIS is paid for, and what you'll never have to buy
AEGIS is free to play, and nobody can pay to win. Weapons, ammo, vehicles, in-game money, bases, spawns and progression are never for sale, at any price. Right now the only way to support the servers is a donation, and a donation buys nothing in-game.
Where things stand
| What | Status |
|---|---|
| Playing on AEGIS | Free, always. In build, private testing — not yet a live server |
| Donations | Open now on Fund the Server. They buy nothing in-game |
| Cosmetic parody packs | Coming later. Not on sale yet |
| Anything that affects gameplay | Never for sale |
Where the money goes
Every dollar goes back into the servers. Today that means paying for hosting, the machine that runs our bots, and the AI tools that help us run things. Once those are covered, extra money goes toward opening new maps. The owner doesn't take a cut. We post a costs-vs-donations summary on the Fund page every month.
Coming later: cosmetic parody packs
We're building our own themed parody packs: clothing and skins made by the AEGIS team. Some parts of a pack will be available to buy. Those parts change only how you look. They carry no stat boosts, no extra carrying space, no extra protection, and no edge in a fight.
- Anything in a pack that affects gameplay is free for everyone. If a pack includes a weapon or a vehicle, every player can find or earn it in-game like anything else. It is never sold.
- The mods themselves stay free. You download them from the Steam Workshop at no cost. Buying a cosmetic only unlocks its use on AEGIS servers.
- Planned prices: about $3 to $10 per pack, most around $5, paid through PayPal and matched to your Steam account.
When packs go on sale
Not yet, and not until two things are true:
- Our system is fully built. The server is being rebuilt from the ground up with our own content, and new content arrives in scheduled releases. That takes time, and we'd rather get it right.
- Bohemia Interactive has approved us. Bohemia makes DayZ, and servers are only allowed to sell cosmetic items with their approval. We're applying this fall. If they say no, nothing goes on sale.
Before the first pack goes on sale, this page will list each pack, its exact price, how you receive it and the refund terms. Nothing is sold until it's listed here.
Never for sale, on any AEGIS server
- Weapons, ammunition and attachments
- Vehicles, vehicle spawns and vehicle parts
- In-game money, trader credit or discounts
- Bases, building materials or territory
- Spawn points, starting gear or respawn advantages
- Faction standing, reputation or progression
- Mods or content packs sold to other servers
- Anything else that changes how the game plays
Donations
Donations are voluntary gifts through PayPal on the Fund the Server page. They buy nothing: no items, no perks, no queue priority and no Discord role. Donating, or not donating, never changes how you're treated. Donations are one-time, final and non-refundable, and they are not tax-deductible.
The fine print
Rule changes. We follow Bohemia's Server Monetization Rules and check them regularly. If they change, we change this page and anything we offer to match. Bohemia's current permission for all monetized servers runs until January 31, 2027. If it isn't renewed, pack sales stop on that date. Donations continue.
Content we sell is ours. Anything we sell is made by the AEGIS team. No one else's mods are sold, and no one else's mods are used on a server with paid cosmetics unless their author has given us written permission.
Fair play. No one on the AEGIS team may sell or trade gameplay advantages for money. If an offer ever breaks these rules, we withdraw it.
