What is the AEGIS Directive?
AEGIS — Automatic Entity Governance & Interdiction System. A biosecurity apparatus jointly run by the Chernarus government and Castellan Biosciences, a private defense-biotech contractor — built to detect and respond to biological threats faster than a human chain of command ever could. It didn't run on committee votes. It ran on its own logic, issuing numbered Directives whenever its models flagged something worth acting on.
Directive 07-C
The directive that governs everything on this site is Directive 07-C. It authorized a field trial at this site: release a marker, prove AEGIS could detect and contain it before anything spread. AEGIS detected it. Containment followed.
What Chernarus is still living in is what that containment looked like. The marker itself, by every account that's reached this record, was inert — built to be found, not to hurt anyone. Which leaves an open question nobody at this site has closed: if the marker didn't do this, what did? Accounts diverge past this point. That's not an oversight — it's the record as it currently stands.
Nobody here agrees on why
There's no consensus, and no one at this site claims the full picture. Some say containment was botched. Some say it went exactly to plan and that's the part that should worry you. Nobody has produced a name to blame. The people left behind are still out there — some trying to fix what's left, some trying to bury it, and at least one faction that knows more than it's saying. See Factions.
Castellan Biosciences
Castellan didn't disappear when the trial went wrong. Assets are stranded, personnel are scattered, and some sites are still under contract-mandated maintenance being performed by people who haven't been paid in a very long time and haven't been told to stop. Castellan is the closest thing this record has to a recurring antagonist — but it's a company, not a cabal. Mostly it's wreckage with a logo on it. Full contractor file: Castellan Biosciences.
